Dear Hsui-Chen,
- If you have a US passport, you do not need a visitor's visa to enter
Germany. Citizens of other countries, except Europe, need a 3-months
visitor's visa.
- As a researcher, you do not need a work visa or permit for employment.
- Once you applied for the residence permit, it ususally is approved
within one day (if you go to the office personally), or 4 to 6 weeks (if
you send it to the office). In case the application is sent in, your
passport will be taken until the application is approved, and you will
get a receipt and a makeshift passport for that time. As a US citizen,
you may stay without residence permit for up to three months.
- For the health insurance, I will arrange for it as soon as I have the
details needed, i.e. a contract of employment, fellowship contract or
similar, and the date when you actually start to work here. If I have
these, I can have you registered as a member with one of the health
insurance companies even before you arrive in Frankfurt. If you wait
until you arrive here, it can be done within one day.

當初確定要去德國的時候馬上有問簽證的問題 當時超擔心因為德國在臺協會網站寫工作簽證要三個月才會下來
辦事小姐她是說不用working visa 上禮拜拿到邀請函 打去在臺協會這樣可以嗎
它們卻要我辦工作簽證 不過還好的是馬普所因為是公立單位辦下來簽證很快他說三到五天
只是兩邊說法不一真的很傷腦筋~~~先去洗澡再想想看~~
