Among those who took vitamin supplements or a multi--most of which contain vitamin B12--only 1 out of 12 was deficient in this vitamin. The synthetic vitamin B12 in multis is absorbed better than the protein-boundvitamin B12 in foods such as meat (Amer. Jour. of Clinical Nutrition, Feb 2000).
